This hotel is one of my favourites and I have stayed there many times over the last 11 years, always in an ocean view inn room apart from this latest stay.
The OVIRs are wonderful. The ocean is very close at VBR and to sit on the balcony - or even lie on the bed - listening to the pounding waves is fabulous.
This time we also experienced (for one night only!) a studio which had a queen bed and a sofa bed. We had an ocean view from the balcony but we were further away than you are in the inn (main hotel) and it was a totally different experience. We did not care for the room and so paid $30 to move back into the inn the next day. This was, for me, the best $30 I spent during the whole holiday.
The restaurant had a new chef and we ate at Shutters twice. The first time we had 'proper' meals - one New York strip steak and one half chicken. They were pleasant enough but hardly memorable and not cheap, although I did have a DDE card which gave me 20% off the bill. The next time we had a wholemeal flatbread each and they were excellent. They are a bit like a pizza.
There is WiFi in the lobby and The Green Cabin Room (lounge bar with entertainment most nights and open balcony overlooking ocean.
A lovely resort and the activities listed in the previous review are all still available. |

A Disney resort away from Disney!!! How does that work?
Very well is the answer. It has a different feel from the resorts in Disney World obviously, but its a fantastically finished hotel. The staff are local to the area and are not over Disney'ed but the service is excellent.
This is a great place to go to have a bit of a rest from the hustle and bustle of Orlando. Its on the less built up east coast and in a great spot called Orchid Island about 6 miles north of Vero Beach itself.
We've stayed here several times and thouroughly enjoyed every visit. My only slight criticism would be that the restaurants are nice but quite expensive when compared to others locally. Disney have recognised this and there is a big book in reception of menu's from lots of local places for you to try.(Wouldn't it be easier to reduce the prices?)
There are great facilities for all ages of kids, craft clubs, canoeing, fishing, pool games, soccer, mini-golf, tennis, basketball, croquet(!) as well as guided turtle walks on the beach (they nest here) and finally storytelling and a singalong around the campfire, toasting marshmellows.
If you want to add on a little bit of a break to a Disney holiday then this is ideal. | |
